Sussex Fire Department

The Sussex Fire Department proudly protects approximately 15,000 citizens in the town of Sussex and surrounding areas who are living in an area of 120 square miles. We operate out of one station that protects a primarily residential area, providing Firefighting,		Vehicle Rescue (Extrication), Search & Rescue services, and Water Rescue. Our department consists strictly of volunteer members which includes a Chief, Deputy Chief, 5 Captains, 5 Lieutenants, and 28 firefighters.
The Sussex Fire Department holds an annual recruitment for new members in the month of May. Firefighting can be a very rewarding and satisfying job. You are encouraged to try out for the next available position so watch our website and your local newspaper listing for the dates of the upcoming events.

Our Mission

The Sussex Fire Department pledges to perform to the best of their ability within the financial and human resources allocated to the Department by council and in doing so,

• Strives to save lives, protect the environment and conserve property;
• Strives to respond to motor vehicle accidents if extrication is requested;
• Strives to respond if requested to calls for the provision of limited first aid service;
• Strives to respond to natural and man-made disasters if our assistance is requested; and
• Strives to conduct and participate in Fire Prevention Programs emphasizing fire-safety in the home and workplace
